Who is this for?
CESM is for researchers and scientists working at the intersections of terrestrial ecology, climate science, land surface modeling, and biogeochemistry. The CESM Land Model Working Group brings together over 150 scientists to quantify ecological climatology using cutting-edge models and data. It supports both established and emerging users by providing access to models like MIMICS, along with educational resources and tools to help users apply and integrate these models into their research.

“Understanding forced climate change in the presence of internal climate variability is a major challenge for climate prediction. To make progress, the science and stakeholder communities need relevant climate model experiments with useful outputs. The CESM-LE addresses this challenge through its transparent experimental design and relevant accessible outputs.”
Kay et al., 2015

“…VR-CESM demonstrated competitive utility for studying high-resolution regional climatology…”
Huang et al., 2016

“The newest version, CESM2, has many new technical and scientific capabilities ranging from a more realistic representation of Greenland’s evolving ice sheet, to the ability to model in detail how crops interact with the larger Earth system, to improved representation of clouds and rain, and to the addition of wind-driven waves on the model’s ocean surface.”
Danabasoglu et al., 2020
